Errors Codes and how to resolve them:

1) A session already exists. (this has never been seen)

2) The module is not loaded

        a. Check to see if MACPoet is active in the Extension Manager

        b. Check to see if TCP/IP is configured correctly.

        c. Check to see if Apple Talk is active and set to Ethernet

        d. Check to make sure Virtual Memory is on.

        e. Restart system

        f. Set to a minimum set of Extensions.

        g. Restart system

 

3) There is no Ethernet Port

        a. Check that Apple Talk is active and set to Ethernet.

        b. Check to make sure the Ethernet extensions is active.

        c. Set to a minimum set of Extensions.

 

4) Cannot open a Control Stream

        Check that Apple Talk is active and set to Ethernet.

 

5) Cannot bind to PPPoE Protocol

        Restart the system:

This usually happens if the user installs MACPoet and reboots before
configuring TCP/IP. Configure TCP/IP and try to connect and get the error. You reboot and it connects.

 6) PPPoE Negotiation Failed

        Check the Log Tab

        a. PADO not received.

            1.  Power down modem and computer.

            2.  Disconnect and then reconnect Ethernet cable on both ends. (modem and computer)

            3.  Restart system and log in

            4.  Trash all MACPoet files except the installer

            5.  Trash Mac TCP DNR and TCP/IP preferences

            6.  Reconfigure TCP/IP control panel.

            7.  Check to see if Apple Talk is active and set to Ethernet

            8.  Check to make sure Virtual Memory is on.

            9.  Set to a minimum set of Extensions.

           10. Restart the computer rebuilding the desktop as you do.

           11. Reinstall MACPoet. 

        b. If you see PADS not received, connect again, this is usually temporary.

7) The server terminated the session.

 OTHER ERRORS

1) Session in Progress but their is no IP address in the log tab of MACPoet.

        This is an authentication errors. 

 2) If a user can connect but can't surf:

        1. Set the Log Tab to DEBUG and reconnect.

        2. If top line says Session Active and IP and DNS addresses then it is an authentication error. Verify username and password. 

        3. Trash MACPoet Preferences

        4. Trash Mac TCP DNR

        5. Try and connect

        6. If still cannot connect, reinstall MACPoet.

MacPoET related startup errors, crashes, and other oddities

Error -3221 and -3274 
1. ) Most commonly seen on older Macs running Mac OS 8.0 or 8.1 
2. ) The system will start up successfully with these errors, but MACPoet will not be loaded properly (error 2 in MACPoet). 
3. ) First, check the Memory control panel. If Virtual Memory is OFF, then click Use Defaults and restart. If Virtual memory is ON, set a DSL Minimum Extension Set and restart. 
4. ) If these solutions don't work, the user will need to install a modified MACPoet INIT. 

Error -3242 
"Code fragment could not be prepared" System Bomb 
Unable to shutdown/restart using the Special menu or the power key

How to make a DSL Minimum Extension Set (MES)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. ) Go to Apple Menu —> Control Panels —> Extensions Manager 
2. ) Click on Duplicate Set button on the bottom right of the window 
3. ) Type in "original" and click OK 
4. ) Select Mac OS All (may also be iMac All or PowerMac G3 All) in the Selected Set popup menu at the upper left of the window 
5. ) Click on Duplicate Set button on the bottom right of the window 
6. ) Type in "DSL MES" and click OK 
7. ) Go to View menu to As Packages 
8. ) Locate the bold face item Neon Software and activate it 
9. ) If the NIC is not built in, locate and activate the extension for the NIC
10. ) Click Restart

How to browse to an Alcatel modem
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. ) First make sure the user has Netscape installed. MSIE is unable to make the HTTP 1.1 connection required 
2. ) Go to Apple Menu —> Control Panels —> TCP/IP 
3. ) Go to File Menu to Configurations 
4. ) Make a note of the name of the currently selected configuration, then click Duplicate, type in "DSL test", click OK, then click Make Active 
5. ) Delete the IP address and type in 10.0.0.139 
6. ) Delete the Router address and type in 10.0.0.138 
7. ) Close the TCP/IP window and click Save when the dialog appears 
8. ) Launch Netscape and click the Stop icon when the window opens 
9. ) In the Location field, type in 10.0.0.138 and hit Return 
10. ) A "Welcome to ADSL" web page should appear in the browser. If it does not then either the connection to the modem is bad (bad NIC, bad or wrong cat5 cable, going through a         hub, missing ethernet extensions, extension conflicts, etc.) or the modem is bad. If it does load, then the problem is most likely a line issue. 
11. ) Go to Apple Menu —> Control Panels —> TCP/IP 
12. ) Go to File Menu to Configurations 
13. ) Select the original DSL configuration and click Make Active, then close TCP/IP
