This document is intended to complement the instructions given in Robert
Schlabbach's README.HTM file. Please review instructions there before
continuing.
You will need Winzip or a similar program to extract these files.
If you do not have a copy, then you can download and install Winzip from any
popular download site - like www.cnet.com or www.download.com, just do a search
for winzip.
After you have installed Winzip, double click on the RASPPPOE.ZIP file to open.
Click on the Extract button.
Type c:\raspppoe in the Extract to: field.
Click Extract.
Right-click the My Network Places icon on your desktop and select
Properties.
Go to the menu and select View then Details.
You should find one or more Local Area Connection objects.
Locate the one going through the network adapter connected to your DSL modem.
Right-click it and select Properties.
In the properties dialog box, click the Install... button.
Select Protocol and click the Add... button.
Click the Have Disk... button.
Type c:\raspppoe and click Ok
Click the OK button to start installing the PPP over Ethernet Protocol.
You will probably get 4 windows titled "Digital Signature Not Found".
Click Yes each time to continue.
Click Close.
Click the Start button on the taskbar and select Run...
Type raspppoe.exe in the edit field and click the OK button.
You should get the RASPPPOE dialog bog.
Your ethernet adapters will be listed in the top box.
If you only have one, it will be greyed out.
If you have more than one, then select the one your DSL modem is connected to.
Click on Query Available Services to verify that you have a working DSL
connection.
You should see one or two Access Concentrators.
If you do not, then check the lights on the modem and verify your connections.
Click on Create a Dial-Up Connection for the selected Adapter.
This will put a "Connection through ..." icon on your desktop.
Double click on this icon.
This will bring up a Connect Connection through ... box.
Carefully type in your full email address and password.
Click on Properties before connecting.
Type in "mindspring.com" for the phone number. Click OK
Click Dial.
You should see this series of windows.
If you get an authentication failed error, then check your user name or
password.
If you have service pack 1 installed, then your computer can be set to dial
automatically when needed.
Right click on the Internet Explorer icon and pick Properties.
Click on the Connections tab.
Put the dot next to Always dial my default connection.
Click on "Connection through ..."
Click the Set Default button.
Click OK.
