The Basics
When installing your Ricochet modem on a computer with a USB port, be sure that you don't connect the Ricochet modem to your computer until after you have run the CD-ROM installation disk, and you are asked by the installation program to connect the Ricochet modem. If you connect the Ricochet modem before running the installation program you may experience problems, and will need to follow these instructions to fix it.
Once your Ricochet modem is correctly installed, you need to know the following to connect to the Internet:
Number to connect to: 3333
Username and password: These are case-sensitive, and should be all in lower
case. You should have been assigned these when you got your modem. If not, call
your ISP’s customer service department to be set up with an account.
Troubleshooting
Com Port Problems:
One of the prerequisites for installing a Ricochet modem on your computer is
that it must have an available com port. Most computers have Com1 available for
serial connections. USB connections are also assigned a Com port. Both
serial and USB ports can experience Com port problems, especially if the Com
port your Ricochet modem is trying to connect to is also being used by another
program. Programs that are known to occasionally create these types of
conflicts are HotSync Manager and RealPlayer 6.0. HotSync
Manager can simply be turned off to handle the problem. RealPlayer 6.0
may need to be uninstalled completely for the conflict to be resolved.
Re-installing Your Ricochet Modem
If you need to re-install your Ricochet modem, follow these steps:
1. Turn off your Ricochet
modem.
2. Go to Start, Settings,
Control Panel, then open up Modems. Highlight the Ricochet modem
by clicking on it once. Select Remove. If you have more than one
Ricochet modem listed, repeat this for the other Ricochet modems listed. Then
click OK and reboot your computer.
3. Once your computer has
re-booted, run the CD-ROM installation disk setup program.
4. When asked by the setup
program to connect the Ricochet modem, turn it back on and make sure it is
properly connected to your computer.
