Troubleshooting NTS Enternet100 on Win2k

EnterNet 100 ver. 1.3 is available to download from http://download.mindspring.com/maxdsl

Check the following 4 items first

The cd that Mindspring ships has an older version and will NOT work on Win2000
Make sure that the logged on user has administrative privileges.
Open Network and Dial-up connections. shortcut: right click My Network Places > click properties.
From the menu bar click view > details. Note: This allows you to see the status of all the LANs in one window.

Time out during negotiation (aka: timeout while trying to connect to the network)
or Tap Drive error

There should be 2 LAN connections: One for the NIC, and one for the PPPoE adapter, as shown above.
The LAN status for the NIC should be "Enabled". Note: If there is not a NIC listed here check Device Manager or Add/Remove Hardware to troubleshoot the NIC.
The LAN status for the PPPoE adapter should be "Network Cable Unplugged". Note: After a successful connection to the Mindspring network is made, the status will change to "enabled".
If the status of either LAN is "Disabled", Right click the LAN connection and select "Enable".
Check the properties of each LAN. Shortcut: right click on the LAN and select properties.
There should be at least two items checked for each LAN:
1. Client for Microsoft Networks tip: if not there click install > client> add> Client for Microsoft Networks > OK
2. TCP/IP (Internet Protocol) tip: if not there click install > protocol > add > Tcp/ip > OK
You will need to create a new profile in EnterNet 100 and choose the NIC as the connection device. If the PPPoE adapter is chosen as the adapter to use for connection the connection attempt will time out in negotiation with no other error report (assuming everything else is correctly configured).

Failed on create device : the PPPoE adapter is not enabled or has a problem.

First check to see that the PPPoE adapter is enabled as described above. If the PPPoE adapter cannot be enabled, uninstall and reinstall the EnterNet program with all Norton programs disabled.

From Control Panel : Open Add/Remove hardware.

Search for duplicate PPPoE or NIC adapters. If duplicate adapters exist, ask if there is more than one NIC adapter of that type in the machine. If there is not more than one remove one of the adapters.
Also check hardware list (Add/Remove Hardware) for any hardware (especially network adapters) that have a red x on it or yellow question mark.
If there is more two or more NICs in the machine, try plugging the Ethernet cable from the modem into the other NIC.

Tap Driver is not ready, status 0 tcp/ip is not bound to pppoe connection.
From Network and Dial-up Connections > right click the PPPoE LAN and select properties.
check the Tcp/ip box and Client for Microsoft Networks box. Note: If either is not listed, add it by clicking install > clinet or protocol   > add > Clinet for Microsoft Networks or Tcp/ip > OK

Ping the modem and NIC
A command prompt is available under start > programs > accessories.
to set the IP address of the NIC: right click on My Network Places > properties > right click on NIC LAN > properties > select tcp/ip > properties

Connects OK but can't pull web pages: Client For Microsoft networks and Tcp/Ip are not bound to PPPoE adapter.
