Network Settings
 NIC IP: 10.0.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.0.0.0
Ping the Modem at 10.0.0.2

It is not necessary to specify IP's in the TCP/IP settings unless you need to ping the PCI Modem, or the user is receiving TAP errors. If you do specify the IP, you should use the above settings for this modem.

If the modem drivers are properly installed, you will see the following icons on the taskbar:

  Indicates the modem has an active connection. The lights will blink when the modem is transmitting.

  Indicates the modem is not connected or configured properly.

If this shows disconnected and the user cannot re-connect via Enternet 100, cold-boot the computer and check the cable from the computer to the wall. Check the LED on the back of the PCI card, it should be on.
Double-click the systray icon for details. Pressing Ctrl-Alt-A while this is open will provide advanced details such as VPI and VCI numbers, bytes sent/received, and error count.
If icon is not present in the systray, it can be turned on by going into Control Panel, double-clicking the SpeedStream Status icon, and checking the Show Icon on Taskbar option.
The Control Panel applet has the same functions as the systray icon.

Windows 98 Network Settings:
** The following assumes the computer is not participating on a network.
The user will need the following components in the Network Control Panel:
  • Client for Microsoft Networks
  • Dial-up Adapter (optional but good backup to have)
  • ENI 3060 SpeedStream (01) RFC 1483 Ethernet PVC Client
  • Network TeleSystems PPPoE Adapter (NTSPPP3)
  • TCP/IP -> Dial-up Adapter
  • TCP/IP -> ENI 3060 SpeedStream (01) RFC 1483 Ethernet PVC Client
  • TCP/IP -> Network TeleSystems PPPoE Adapter (NTSPPP3)
     (the user may have VPN support as well although it is not required)

VPN by default adds the NetBEUI protocol and binds it to all the adapters. If the computer is not on a network, then all instances of NetBEUI can be removed. If the computer is on a network and using NetBEUI, then leave NetBEUI -> Ethernet Card in place and just remove the others.

The TCP/IP settings for the SpeedStream 3060 and the NTS PPPoE Adapter are normally set the same way we set TCP/IP for the Dial-up Adapter:
  • Obtain an IP address automatically
  • Disable WINS resolution
  • Installed gateways is blank
  • Disable DNS

Windows:

Enter these settings in the TCP/IP properties of the Modem, do not change anything in the TCP/IP properties of the NTS PPPoE adapter, except perhaps disabling WINS.

Macintosh:
Change TCP/IP from "Connect via Enternet" to "Connect via Ethernet" and change "Configure Using PPP Server" to "Configure Manually". Enter the appropriate IP and Subnet mask, then close and save the changes. Run the OT Tool directly from the MindSpring CD. (located in the Other Software or Software Depot folder) In the lower right corner, enter the PCI modems's IP address and click on the "Ping" button. See Picture

Removing the PCI Modem driver - Windows 95/98

If CleanSweep is installed, the user may need to disable and/or uninstall it before continuing.
The user will need the Windows CD for both removing and re-installing these drivers.
1 Open the Network Control Panel
2 Highlight the ENI 3060 SpeedStream (01) RFC 1483 Ethernet PVC Client
3 Click the Remove button and click OK to close the Network dialog
4 When prompted to restart the system, click No
5 Check Device Manager for installed network adapters, remove anything "SpeedStream" that might still be    there Also check for a heading called "Other" and remove any SpeedStream entry listed
6 Run the Enclean utility (this is a must if the registry contains corrupted entries, and is a good idea to do    anyway) The user can download it here (Efficient's FTP site)
7 Restart the computer when prompted

Installing the PCI Modem driver - Windows 95/98
*The computer must recognize the modem on startup, it cannot be manually added later.
1 At bootup, the Add New Hardware Wizard comes up and displays: PCI ATM Controller click Next.
2 Select "Search for the best driver for your device" and click Next
3 Select only the "Specify a location" option and click browse. Navigate to the folder where the user has    the drivers. Click Ok and click Next. The driver for this modem can be found here (MSPG Software Depot)
4 "Windows is now ready to install the best drivers for the device" (file name is EN60C.inf) click Next.
5 "Thank you for purchasing SpeedStream" click Next.
6 "Select Default VPI" dialog opens. You will need to check with your ISP for the RVPI number.
   There is no field to enter a VCI number as this is always 35.
7 "Finished retrieving installation information" click Finish. (files will now be copied from the Windows CD)
8 "Windows has finished installing the software that your new hardware requires" click Finish.
9 Restart the computer when prompted
